Writing to Me
Fix the Mistakes:
last summer our family gone to yellowstone national park
Combine the Sentences:
The child is lost. The child is crying. She is looking for her mom
To be completely honest, I did not like to write or read in elementary, middle or high school. In fact, I hated it. I remember having to complete D.O.L.'s (Daily Oral Language) every single day in my third and fourth grade years (example provided above). I felt like writing was always a chore, except I didn't get paid. Throughout my high school and college career I always did what I had to do in order to achieve a passing grade. Somehow, I usually managed to pull of a 3.5 or 4.0 in most of my writing classes, but I never enjoyed it.
It was not until working in a public school system where I realized how important writing as a skill is. I also realized how many students are lacking writing skills. I am talking about what I consider "simple" writing skills such as, capitalization, periods at the end of sentences, indenting at the beginning of a paragraph, etc. By seeing many students not being able to write well it allowed me to take a particular interest in learning how to teach and help others write well.
Writing is an essential skill for students of all backgrounds and abilities to develop. I can't say I have a huge passion for writing, but I do have a huge passion for teaching others to write. I believe in order for a teacher to be effective at teaching writing he/she has to have students engaged in the writing activity. I personally feel this is some of the reason why I don't have a strong desire to write. I can only recall two different times where I was able to write a paper on a topic that interested me.
There are multiple reasons why I want to become a writing teacher. One important reason is develop all students writing abilities for whatever their future may bring. If a student wants to go right into the work force after high school, it is my obligation to have that students' writing abilities be competent enough to effectively fulfill that jobs requirements. If a student was to go to an Ivy League college, it is once again my obligation to have that students' writing abilities be competent enough to succeed at this level.
Another reason I want to become a writing teaching is to allow students to understand that writing is fun. Due to my past experiences towards writing I never found fun in writing. Now, that I am older I am able to comprehend that writing can be fun. I also know that writing is not all research papers and argumentative essays. There are multiple forms of writing. Writing is an ideal way for one to express themselves. I want all my students to find some type of writing they enjoy. It could be writing poetry, song lyrics, researching topics that interest them, writing and acting plays out, etc. Basically, I want students to not have the same experience as I did and that they will grow up and having positive experiences writing.
